The Web is the Center of Our Universe

When you think about how quickly the Web has grown it is astonishing. In less than 15 years, the Internet has grown into the most important medium today for how most people get their daily information as well as interact with others. The Web is not just the center of our lives, it is the center of our universe.

Why the Web has grown so quickly speaks to the nature of human beings. We tend to latch onto something, make it our own, and expand and improve upon what makes it function. The World Wide Web is no different as technology improvements and good old human brain power has transformed it into the greatest invention of our time.

The Internet has pushed the world into a global economy allowing small mom and pop businesses to compete with large fortune 500 companies in a broad marketplace internationally. We have seen traditional things like dating shift into what is now the online dating phenomenon that is used by millions of people on a daily basis.

Gone are the old days of waiting for our morning paper to arrive for what has happened in the World. We have sites like Facebook and Twitter to update our mobile devices with instant updates from self made reporters and bloggers who are suddenly experts of everything.

With all of the good comes bad and the bad can sometimes be too much in the eyes of some. We have hit information overload and media in general drives many things including politics and social issues. It makes you wonder when a serious news story is reported the amount of bias that is involved. You can check the abundance of stories on a particular subject and find conflicting reports to balance things out and make your own conclusions.

The point here is that it has almost become overwhelming to sift through everything. We have all created this monster and the question is…will it end up consuming us all?
